Intro to Islam in today's world and the West

In talking about Islam these days I hear the argument that most Muslims are just good mild mannered people and that all of the angry terror stuff come from a minority of Muslims. Let’s just assume for the moment that this is accurate. Let’s say there are 1.2 billion Muslims on the planet and only 10% are angry and irrational. That leaves us with 120 million angry, suicide bomb approving radical Muslims. These Muslims have declared war on the West and specifically the US and Israel years ago:

Why would they do such a thing? We believe in live and let live right? Doesn’t everybody believe the same in this regard? Don’t all roads lead to God?

A. We are infidels and they want us dead as per their teachings
B. Yes we do, sort of.
C. Nope. We are infidels and must die as it is written.
D. No. On a totally logical, secular level this can’t fly. Many faiths declare to be THE TRUTH yet have a belief system that is totally foreign to and in some cases directly opposed to the others. What we no from this about different faiths is that 1. All may be false and 2. 2 opposed faiths that declare truth cannot be both true.

We have been lulled in our western culture to dismiss ideas that seem foreign or out of whack to us. We don’t pay attention to the sometimes not so quiet takeover throughout Europe.

We in the West have been lulled into a numb, ignorant existence without much recognition to a world/culture outside of our own. Islam was founded about 600 AD by Mohammed. The strife between the races goes back to Isaac and Ishmael some 4,000 years ago. Most of the attempts to get all parties to shake hands and make up in the middle east are laughable at best and exhibit gross ignorance re the hidden and not so hidden nuances of the strife in that region. The US is barely a toddler on the world scene and we assume that we know how to make everything better. Arrogant and ignorant.

We as individual need to educate ourselves and become proactive. In that proactivity we need to educate those close to us so that we can focused and make a positive impact.
